I had a fun and relaxing weekend making my Summer Monogram Wreath! I used stamps and watercolors to make the butterflies. Here’s the how-to!
Summer Monogram Wreath
Supplies (some are affiliate links)
- Deep Red Stamps Butterflies Rubber Stamp Set
- Xyron 1.5-inch Create-A-Sticker
- Xyron Tape Runner
- Stamp ink
- Acrylic stamp block (at least 4×6 inches)
- White cardstock
- Watercolors and brush
- Wood letter (that fits inside wreath form)
- 12-inch wreath form
You can go about making the butterflies in several ways. The first way I did it was to freely paint stripes in different watercolors on white cardstock, then stamp my butterflies on top.
Then I fussy-cut around the butterflies.
And that’s it! Make as many as you need.
Another way is to color them in after stamping. This was fun, but took a lot more time. The other way is fun but faster. Fussy cut out the butterflies as before.
I wanted my butterflies to have some dimension so I folded my butterflies and only added adhesive to parts of it. For some, I ran the folded butterfly through my Xyron Create-A-Sticker. The largest one can fit through my little 1.5-inch machine.
So when it comes out, only half of the butterfly has adhesive on the back.
And when you stick it onto the wood letter, one of the wings is sticking up. NOTE: Before you cover the whole letter with butterflies, first tie some twine at the top for hanging on the wreath. See a few photos down.
I also used my Xyron Tape Runner to add adhesive to just the middle of the butterfly.
So that both wings are sticking up.
I forgot to add my hanging string to my wood letter, as mentioned above. I just wrapped twine around the top a few times and left both ends long.
Then I adhered a butterfly on top to conceal it.
And I tied the twine ends to the wreath, which I had covered with the same twine. In the pic below, there are two sets twine ends, one from wrapping around the wreath (we will keep those ends for hanging the wreath), and the other ends are from the letter. Those you can trim away.
I added one last touch, a banner that I printed out, and adhered a few butterflies to it.
Here’s the banner printable if you’d like to use it. Or it’s just as easy to make one by hand.
My Summer Monogram Wreath was so fun to make!
